This is part 6 in a series of related blog posts. You may want to start at the beginning.
I know, I know. You’re still in shock that we dated for longer than 6 weeks before getting married, right? In Utah it’s the norm to seal the deal at the ripe old age of 22, after just a half dozen dates. Well, we’d both already missed that deadline, and things were just heating up!
After 6 months of long distance dating, Shalauna said, “Baby call me crazy, but I gotta get next to you“. She found an apartment in Springville, convinced her employer to let her work remotely, and shipped everything she owned across the country.
Our relationship was fantastic, but we needed time together in the flesh. You know, like every single day. There are some things you can only know about a person by being around them. Like how I wash my hands 20 times a day. Or how Shalauna measures everything in terms of time at church. A flight to Hawaii? That’s like 5 sacrament meetings!
Being in close proximity to each other gave us a lot more time together and allowed us to find out just how weird and amazing each other really were. We could observe one another in situations and experiences that wouldn’t have been possible remotely. Plus we got to go on a LOT more dates.
